Pulled a 1892 Indian Head cent out of a box of Canadian cents today. Very nice condition. Pretty much a full Liberty. Full shield on reverse...can even recognize the arrows. Is there any variety to look for with the 1892?

Here is the 1892 IHC:

Any ideas on possible grade? Thank you for looking.

You can buy coins from the bank in boxes. For 1 cent coins...each box contains 50 rolls of cents. Cost is $25. Just ask your teller. Sometimes they do not have them in a box but 50 loose rolls will do.

I posted it here as I found the coin in a Canadian box of pennies while roll searching. Just showing others who search Canadian coin rolls what I have found. If the Admin wants to remove or move the thread...I apologize for the post. Just thought it was a interesting find here in the great white north. :)

Happy hunting to all...off to look for my next interesting find.

no need to apologize . I think its amazing you found that in a canadian roll of cents. my only point was that you would get more response ( I think) in the american forums about your questions.
btw hope I find something like that anywhere someday. these are probably hard to find in the states let alone here.

No worries...I did also post in the US forum as well. I figured the coin to be around VF that looks like it may have been cleaned at one time. When I pulled it out of the roll there was quite a bit of gunk and crusty bits on the coin. I soaked it in peroxide for aprox 10 min and used a toothpick that I also soaked to soften it to remove the crust. Works great. It was very hard to see a lot of the details with all the gunk on the coin. That is most likely why the coin ended up in a roll. It is not my oldest IH cent but it is the first I have found Roll hunting. Talk about re-energizing the thrill of the hunt. :)

That's AMAZING! Congrats to you!

Most people don't bother looking at their pennies, and often don't waste time bending over to pick them up when they drop them either. I still can't believe I found a 1909 US penny once, but I lost track of it. It wasn't the really valuable one because I did check. I also once found, I think it was a 1913 or a 1917 US penny. Can't remember. Lost track of those too.

I was really surprized recently to get almost a full roll of US nickels from RBC last week, so yes, US coins are rolled up mixed in with our Canadian. Incredib;e to get such an old US cent. I guess people didn't look close at their change, or some kid spent their parents old pennies on some candies, not knowing better.

(oops, forgot you mentioned the cent was full of gunk and not easy to notice it was different)

Nice.
I found a 1900 2 weeks ago. Unbelievable.
Someone must be dumping coins.

I have gotten a few IH's in rolls I picked up at a CIBC in the area. I thought maybe someone was dumping collections or cleaned out Uncle Bob's jars.

Your coin look Normal, They did make an 1892 Indian cent with a Repunched Mint Mark Look for Doubling over the top of the ( One and the Eight ) The back also had Doubling on the Right Side of the Wreath--Rarity R-6 on the Reverse and are - 6 on the Obverse

That's a pretty sweet discovery! Some years ago I also found a 1900 Indian Head penny in canadian pennies, it wasn't as nice as your 1892 though. But yeah, oldest coin found in circulation for me :)

Great find! on both counts--VF details. The color is off; it may have been exposed to the environment and cleaned. I can't see an RPD, but repunched mint marks began in 1908 with the San Francisco mint.
