I just bought online ( ebay) a few US Mint 2009 Lincoln Cent rolls. I opened one and I was disappointed at the quality of the coins. I was under the impression that such rolls would have the best quality for uncirculated coins.

Have any of you had this problem?

Sadly, yes, it's "the norm".
The "spotting" is on most of them, and it has been common for several years now....and yes, you'll be hard pressed to find many high MS grades in biz strikes.

There's nothing different about the coin, or the quality of the "U.S. Mint wrapped" rolls versus the ones you can get from the bank that are Federal Reserve wrapped or otherwise. They aren't given any "special" treatment at all.....it's the same coin.

Until the Mint (Congress), changes the composition on the Cent....this will remain a "common" issue for infinity....

A great many people have that mistaken impression. And they are almost universally disappointed when they break the rolls open. These rolls are NOT for opening, they are for trading AS ROLLS. With these rolls you KNOW what is inside the rolls, but not the quality. With bank rolls you not only don't know what the quality is in the rolls, you really don't have any idea what is actually in the rolls. You may not know the mintmark. They may be all unc, or they may be a mix of uncs and circs, and they may even be mixed dates with just an unc coin on each end.

Conder spelled it out. Folks who constantly put down the Lincoln Memorial cents think you can just go out and put together a high-grade collection in a matter of days get surprized too. Almost everything is MS-60-63 at best. All those BU rolls and complete collections you buy on ebay have the same crap in them too. Yea, they're red, but they're crap.
