Let's see...how many speeding tickets did you get before you got home and how long after you walked in the door did you break that gem open? It's not too bad a condition for a jewelry piece. The reverse could be better but, hey it's a 1916-D Mercury! That was good! Congrats!!!!!!

Nice find. It's amazing what you can find if you look hard enough. I'm actually heading to the town where I used to live and there are few antique shops that usually have a couple good coin deals.

Can you post better pictures of the D? There are 4 mintmark places for the 16-D, this one appears very low. Also, the inside shape of the D is important. The upper serif of the D is normally quite close to the bottom closest leaf. But it all depends on how the inside of the D looks, because the same mintmark was used for all, just 4 different placements. As long as the D looks like this one pictured, you should be golden.

Wow...great find! I'd recommend getting it slabbed, just to reaffirm it's authenticity.

Heres a better pic from, I do not think the lady at the junk shop new what a 1916-D is. she is not all there to be kind.

Looks great! The important thing is the triangle inside of the D. Great find! No speeding tickets, but I would suggest some lottery tickets with that luck! Jordan
