Just received the pre-sell notice from RCM. Poppy coin's design was way better than previous versions. Both pine cone coins were also pretty good. Should be sold out quickly.

I got the notification today as well and already placed my order, this will go nicely with my other commemorative dollars

I also order the two 2010 crystal snowflakes as I've got all the previous releases in this series.

I haven't seen the Holiday Pine Cone coins before, but I may pick up one of each just because the Swarovski crystals.

Not only the crystals. It's the mintage of 5000 that matters. It likely will become a new series. Check out the first release of snowflake series. it also started with 5000 mintage, then becomes quite popular, so I guess the mintage of next year's pine cone will likely go up to 7500 if there is a second release.

You're probably right on the money jonesdav. The first release of crystal coins sold out pretty quickly and the following releases sold out almost as fast even at the higher mintage.

If I recall the first two crystal coins did not sell out. Projected mintage was 10,000 for each coin.

2007 Iridescent White Crystal Snowflake, 94.95, Actual mintage 1404
2007 Blue Crystal Snowflake, 94.95, Actual mintage 1433

Thanks for that information canadian coins.

That's a huge difference between the projected and actual mintage numbers.............any chance there are another 9600 of each coin sitting in a vault someplace?

I don't think so Hawk. The RCM has tight production schedules. And the web pre-order system helps them forecast demand more accurately.

One other thing to note, the first two coins were 46.34 g compared with 31.39 g for the subsequent releases. The first two crystal coins were thicker and better looking too IMO.

Well there go my plans for an early retirement........LOL

Thanks for the confirmation about the first two coins being thicker and heavier. I always thought they were a but never compared them side by side to the others in the series.

Canadian coins, thank you very much for taking the time to snap a picture of the difference between the 2007 and later Crystal Snowflake coins

Would this qualify the 2007 releases as Piedfort coins or are they still considered regular coins?

Jonesdav, apologies for hijacking your post.

To get things back on topic, have you received your 2010 Poppy coin yet?

canadian_coins, Thanks for the information. Can I ask where you got the actual mintage numbers?

What I remembered for the first release of snowflake was that I placed an order for two coins(one for Blue and one for Iridescent) within a week after they were released. The coins were sold out within a month or so. I called the RCM two month after I placed the order because I did not received the coins. I was asked by the RCM whether they could cancel my order for the blue one because it was overbooked. I insisted my order so they finally delivered the two coins. The iridescent one was available on the mint site later sometimes for very short time. They were probably the returned coins.

HawkC026, I have not received the poppy coin yet. RCM usually send me a delivery note in advance. I have not even received that note yet.

Hi Jonesdav,

Mintage is published on page 293, Charlton Standard Catalogue, 2009 - 63rd Edition.

Thanks Canadian_coins, just ordered a catalogue for myself today (2011 version).

Anyway I think at least the RCM made more snowflake coins than the numbers mentioned on the catalogue because my certificates numbered close to eight and nine thousands. Maybe they did not sold that many, then I wonder why the coins were sold out that early on the RCM web site.
