It's leaf peeping time and was wondering if anyone has ever been there. If you have, is the store a large one? Lots to look at, inventory etc..?

The wife and I may take a ride through the mountains and I thinking I could talk her into going by the store.

It is a bit of a ride so I'm looking for info before making the trek.

Thanks

I suggest you use the search tab at the top of the page for the name Littleton. Might find some interesting and really negative items. Same with almost any coin forum. But a visit to any coin store, coin show or coin place is always worth the time for educational purposes.

Littleton is incredibly overpriced but to its credit it has brought tons of new collectors into the hobby, given their advertising in major newspapers. (I always see their discounted ads in the Los Angeles Times).

Yes but also has chased many away thinking all coins are a fantastically expensive hobby.

True but their mainstream ads feature incredible discounts from their regular prices, so the coins in their ads targeted at coin newcomers are almost fairly priced.

I was 'pulled' into the hobby by Littleton and their advertising way back in the 70's. As a young teen I subscribed to their approval service. it was quite affordable back then. I would get the package every 6 weeks (as I recall) and the envelope would be filled with those yellow envelopes and lots of fun stuff. The selection ranged from like $0.35 to $2.00. And for me that was great. I build probably 200+ coins that way. I have no idea of whether or not they were fairly priced, I just knew they were fun. I had a library book to judge pricing and it seemed fair. But today, as noted buy others, they are way overpriced. I get a few things from them from those ads because it is easy and fairly inexpensive but that is it.

I did some time with Littleton in the early 1980's and overall had a decent experience with them. They were pricey compared to other mail order outfits, but their approval service was convenient for me at the time and helped to fill a large number of holes in my folders.
