Well, I just bought a 1946 so I've got one to go, The 1949 and it's gonna be a bugger.

Background of my collection. I have about 360 stashed (cost $0.00) and after inventory I was missing the obvious: 46, 49, 50, 51 and 70 Proof.

There's a 49 UNC on ebay but it's a bit out of my budget ($500).

Looks like a slow search...

Tim

Try doing a search on ebay.com for threepence 1949.

I saw quite a few there at a fraction of that price. None were uncirculated so if that is what you want it won't help

The 49 is quite common and freely available in the UK.
Try an ebay.com search rather than .com

The 1949 is "the" key date with a mintage of only 464,000. Not that common :)

See some on Ukbay. Thanks!

Now go for the sterling. I've been hoarding up a pile when I can get them at bullion price. Some are nice. All are small.

I have a few and love them and lots of sterling 6 pence and shillings. Trying to finish large near complete sets first. Easy to get the wife to allow pay out of a few dollars and that goes far for copper and brass.

Got the 1970 Proof yesterday, she is very nice. Also the 50 and 51 in average circualted. Still waiting on the 49 but it's coming from England.

For a Wheatie, I sure love the Brit coins.

Earlier this week I was in Portland OR and visited Alpine Coin for the first time in 20 years. They had not one, but FIVE flip notebooks of the UK minors, plus a few crowns in a separate tray. Pricing was more than fair, though I expect that will change with the silver run-up. I was after appearance this time and not bullion and pulled out a nice 1898 shilling and 1916 half crown. They're worth a look if you're in Portland.

I love these clunky coins. I have a few to go, also, before I have a complete set.

I have lots but you are likely missing the key and semi-keys. Once I get my posts up I'll be trying to trade some of these out. I'm missing the 49 for a complete second set.

A friend and fellow band member does a little collecting. He brought over a 46 (semi-key) he said it was the only one he had. I was surprised. It's not a date for threepence that's just laying around all alone.
