Actually it makes sense. A lot of coin collectors are trying to get a piece of history so you'd think they'd want a coin that could have a bit of a story behind it. The less wear a coin has the fewer tales it has to tell ;)

I wonder "How many times the coin has been to a poker game, a saloon, in a cheater's pocket, or in the "upstairs" room. How many times has it been counted and counted again, just to fall behind a cushion, car seat, or pocket of your best friend. How many times has the coin been to the movies, bought popcorn, jiggled in a juke box, or left in a Dinner for a tip. Just think of all the "clinks" and "clangs" the coin made in it's life...Jingling around in pockets...probably dropped in the collection plate a time or two. Payed for gas when a quarter or two would do. A coin with lots of wear has an audible history too.

Went to the show, got there and it was cancelled due to the storm damage the building received. Guess that will give me twice as much to spend next month.

not me I like all my coins uncirculated and usually refuse a circulated coin, that is what makes my collecting 1878 VAM's so hard because you find 100 circulated examples to every 1 uncirculated of some VAM's and then there are some 1878 VAM's that are not known in uncirculated grades so unless I just luck up and find one somewhere unattributed I will have to get what I can take when I get to those specific VAM's

Sorry to hear about the cancellation of the show. Hopefully, it'll be better next month. I like to collect a mixture of circulated and uncirculated coins. I've got some UNC morgans, and some circulated modern sets going on right now.

I have been a hard core "circulated" collector,I also love the story they could tell. But the more advanced I get into the world of collecting,I am opening up to new horizons. They are all awesome no matter what I get.A worn coin,or a bright and shiny one,I love them all!!Even an uncirc can tell a story....It's just been handled with a little more care.Sorry you missed your show Kerry, but like you say..Twice as much next time, and I hope you find something good!! :) sn31.

Since we've all sort of turned this into a Circulated vs Uncirculated likes/dislikes thread...I'll give mine. The newer/modern coins I like in BU or better. The older the coin the more character I like however, I still prefer the coins to be readable to the naked eye and undamaged. I don't like gunk or green or nasty dings or dents. I've been known to even pass up some key dates because they lack eye appeal. That's just me!

Good luck though next month on your hunting adventure!

I have to agree.....Green and nasty coins are bad ! I do like wear on them, sometimes, the more the better, I just got a couple Walkers that are really bad but to me they are cool. I am amazed that a coin can actually have that much wear. You know that it has not been circulated in decades (when is the last time you saw a Walker being circulated ? I never have...), yet it still has all that wear. Must have been used thousands of times in it's lifetime........I'll try to post a pic
