Need Ebay Help Asap. What Would You Do?

Irishraider Pillar of the Community United States 1454 Posts	Posted 08/12/2006 10:44 pm I bought this Indonesian banknote off of ebay today. The price was right, .01¢. So, I e-mailed the person and asked if the other notes had sold and if not would she be interested in selling them to me since I had to go grocery shopping and missed the other auctions. I know, if I had wanted them, I should have bid on them before I left. However, I did not. My fault. Anyway, she e-mails me back and says that it might be breaking ebay policy to do this and that she has relisted the notes and I could go bid on them. I said, ok, no problem, don't want you getting in trouble and all. So I go put a bid of $1 on them which puts the bid at .01¢. I check it an hour later and it is up to a $1. No biggie. I got an e-mail from ebay saying that I was the high bidder again because the person who bid on it after me retracted their bid. OK. No problem. I go to check it out, click on bids, and it comes up with a user id similar to the last name of the person who is running the auction. Hmmm? So I click on their feedback and lo and behold, not only are user id and this woman's last name the same but they are both from Wisconsin. I mapquested it and they are 4 hours apart. OK, I was born on a day but it wasn't yesterday. They probably thought they had a whopper. So, I e-mail her and ask what is up with this retracted bid with the user id that is identical to her last name? She says she doesn't know the person and had just noticed it herself. LOL! Sure. I guess I would like some opinions on what I should do. Sheesh, it's only a dollar but, it's the principal of the thing. I offered to help her out by just buying the notes from her and would have compensated her beyond what she is going to get on ebay and she wouldn't have to pay fees either. So I try to do her a square and she tries to pull a fast one on me. I don't know if I should just let it go, as she has already left me positive feedback, or should I let her have it and report her to ebay and let them investigate or should I tell her I will make a deal with her not to report if she just cancels the auction and I give her a fiver for the current auction and to cover all her troubles or does this make me sound like an extortionist? Glyth Valued Member United States 181 Posts	Posted 08/12/2006 10:55 pm Looks like they put $25 so they could find your max bid and then have a reason to retract that ebay would allow( ebay doesn't allow it much). They just told ebay they meant $0.25 and were able to retract and had to rebid at that amount( ebay policy). Then all they had to do is bid at your max bid and they have it. As to reporting her or not I'd go ahead and do it. I know a dollar's not much but she still cheated the system to cost you more money. Report this Post to the Staff

I offered to make a deal outside of ebay which is also against ebay policy. I dislike ebay anyway. They are becoming like Wal-mart. It's the only place you can go to buy groceries anymore and like Wally World, customer service has been flushed down the toilet. Yeh, it is like the Wal-mart of the online auction world. Glyth Valued Member United States 181 Posts	Posted 08/12/2006 11:09 pm I forgot to mention that the fact that they rebid at your high bid is proof that they were just trying to get you to your max bid. It wouldn't make sense for them to rebid at $1 if they already knew that was what your highest bid was. As to ebay being like Wal-mart in reference to customer service quality I'd have to agree. She has left me positive feedback for the auction I already won and if she didn't send it then I could always leave her a neg for not living up to her end of the bargain on the completed auction. Susanlynn9 Forum Mom United States 5877 Posts	Posted 08/13/2006 1:27 pm I would report the seller for shill bidding. The email that you sent the seller does not come into play for a shill report. I wouldn't even worry about that. The seller could get NARU'd for doing this and then there won't be a transaction to complete anyway. ebay does take action against shill bidders. On the one hand, she is correct in offering the notes in another auction per ebay policy and many sellers do that, like you mentioned. But, it certainly does look like a schill scam, although things are not always what they seem. I am not defending her. The one thing I would keep in mind is feedback. She has only 10 Positive where if I read this correctly, you have several hundred. It depends on what value you place on that. This is a new auction and she could slam you after the report is made, or she could post a positive like she did in the first auction. To me that is a sign of a novice seller. Most would post after the buyer posts. Then again they can still reply, but it doesn't affect their first. I agree with everyone that it should be reported. You may want to consider letting someone else buy them, then do a report if that works. Dave Report this Post to the Staff
