The coin has Franco on the one side and the date, 1966, but this is not necessarily the date, the real date is in the stars on either side of the 1966, something strange they did in Spain back then. Coinaholic has put that it is 1968!
On the other side you have the Spanish coat of arms, the lines are catalunya, the lion is from castilla y leon, or castle and lion, and the castle is from castille, which is castilla la mancha now, which is the famed place where Don Quijote is from. The fourth one is from the basque country.
The arrows in a bundle is the falange symbol, the party that Franco took over and made his own. The crown is traditional on Spanish coins, the old silver pesetas of the kings and queens of Spain had a crown, but in 1871 when there was no monarchy they did not use a crown, so it is strange that a "Caudillo" would use the monarch symbol.

Quote: i also have a 50 PTAS, and a 25 PTAS altohugh I'm not sure if those are silver or not If the silver content is relevant for you, then ignore those - the 25 and 50 pesetas coins are Cu-Ni pieces. The stylized bird is the St. John's Eagle. @augsburger: Yes, it is somewhat surprising to see the royal crown on coins of the Franco regime. Then again, the official party line (as from 1946 or so) was that Spain was a monarchy ruled by a government council until the next king would be "ready" ... Christian

unknown95, coins worth only their silver value are often referred to as "junk silver". I don't think chops was trying to be rude though you may have taken it that way.

In this coin everything lower than UNC is only worth it's silver content.Silver content is around 10.50$ today. Krause catalog has 2 years old prices, when silver was 14-15$.Most coins there are way undervalued.Prices have changed.
