I have a 1896 Morgan with a lowercase a on the face.
Has anyone heard of a Morgan with said mark ?
Thanks for any info.

If the "a" is indented then it's called a "counterstamp" but I've never seen one like that before. Would love to see some pics

Not sure of your question. When you say "face" are you referring to the Obverse? there is no letter A on that side. The only letter A is on the reverse side (eagle side).
As the others have stated, if it looks like it was stamped into the coin, then it would be a counter stamp.
If you can explain in more detail, perhaps it would be easier.

"I just got my new letter punches! What can I try them on? How about this silver dollar?" WHAP! "Looks good!"
