First one of these I have ever seen. Only $157,500. Gosh, if I only hadn't bought those 6 gem bu 50D Jeffersons this week.

Gold Quarter Eagle 1808 NGC MS61 The 1808 Quarter Eagle is a one year type coin and is also one of the rarest U.S. gold type coins. Only 2,710 coins were minted with just a small percentage of this number surviving today. The present piece we are offering is pleasing for the grade and exhibits slightly proof-like surfaces. A true early American numismatic rarity. $157,500

Proof-like? Maybe if you like your proofs cleaned. Still a beautiful coin.

Well they did state "slightly proof like surfaces" however, what areas they are talking about is beyond me.

Very nice. I think the photo highlights the scuffs, probably look better in hand, however I think I could stand to spend $150K on other things than this coin.

Nice looking coin! I wouldn't be ashamed to own it!

Just a wee bit out of my league though. I'd rather pay off my house with that kind of money (I think my wife would agree with this assessment too! ).

Interesting piece. Appears harshly cleaned, with beaten up fields, weakly struck around the rim on both sides yet sharply detailed relatively unmarked central devices. Now how does that happen?

their pictures are just bad, here it is on heritage http://coins.ha.com/common/view_ite...o=3408#Photo. they paid $138,000.00 for it. if you look at the close ups on heritage you will notice allot of scratches are on the holder (not all of them but it is pretty scratched up) because they go past the coin in the pictures
