Some recent observations while thumbing through my guide book got me pondering:

1) Why is there an overwhelmingly majority of $5 bills printed at the Fort Worth location, and that those printed in DC don't carry a higher premium as a result.

2) What's the deal with Dallas notes carrying a higher premium even if they have larger print runs than others in the same series? Do people like the letter K that much?

There's some weird conspiracy theory regarding Dallas notes, the number 11, the JFK assassination, and so on. Dunno about your first question though.

FW has most of the new equipment. DC has purchased new equipment and should be up and running sometime this year (may be even this month). This explains why a lot of the stuff lately has been printed at FW (except for $100's).

The K you see is for "Dallas" fed district. The notes printed in Dallas have "FW" in front of the "front plate numbers" (FW = Fort Worth). DC just has the front plate numbers.

As per the colorized $5's - I too have noticed this. A lot of this is ending up in ATMs (change machines at the grocery store etc) in "my area" and is tough to get them from the bank. It has nothing to do with them being printed in FW. And yes, colorized $5's have a greater published value than the older versions.

I have been researching this for a while now...

Some dealers want as much as $12 to $17 per note and you do see some deals on ebay once in a while.

Sorry to reactivate kind of an old topic, but its better than to create a new one, anyway I have a question about what Waredu said about the Dallas note that they have number 11. The number 11 is supposed to reflect the E.O. 11.110 (Myth #9: President Kennedy was assassinated because he tried to usurp the Federal Reserve's power. Executive Order 11,110 proves it.

Hypothesis: In the months before Dallas, President Kennedy signed E.O. 11,110 which instructed the Treasury to issue about $4 billion of interest-free 'silver certificate' currency, thereby circumventing the Federal Reserve and the interest it charges. The Federal Reserve, fearful of further encroachments on its powers, had Kennedy killed.

Facts: Kennedy wrote E.O. 11,110 to phase out silver certificate currency, not to issue more of it. Records show Kennedy and the Federal Reserve were almost always in agreement on policy matters. He even signed legislation to give the Fed more authority to issue currency.-http://www.famguardian.org/Subjects/MoneyBanking/FederalReserve/FRconspire/FRconspire.htm)
and what other conspiracies are there that make the higher premium of the Dallas bank notes?
