Here's a link to an ebay auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...130370190729I'm relatively new to this type of thing and wanted to know if this would at all be worth it? Is there an actual chance to find a key date or at least a more rare date/mint mark? Do you think they are really unsearched? Thanks in advance for any comments or advice.

I hate to say it, but I wouldn't put money on it. I've found branch mints in the early teens out of these about ten years ago. But, that was then, and now is now...

At 10 cents per coin, that seems a little steep. Yes, there is a chance to find something ok, but they only seed them once in a while to generate interest. Notice, it says... "unsearched by our company", but good chance they have been searched numerous times before getting to their company. But, if you like sorting through coins (I do) then it may be worth the entertainment value and you can probably fill quite a few later dates in your album.

I do enjoy searching through coins, but only when there's a chance of finding something nice. I guess there is that chance here, but it would seem smaller then usual. The fact that they would "seed' the bag makes sense.

I've bought some bags from ebay. I think they're ok if you assume that they have been searched and pay accordingly. Then you have the fun of sorting them, a (relatively low) chance of finding something really good, and you haven't lost anything if you don't. My best find from a bag was a pretty nice 1910s.

Are "Unsearched" bags/rolls of LWP worth it generally? No.

I wouldn't waste your money. Go to your local coin shop and buy in bulk there. Ask them to throw in a few nicer things if you buy a big chunk of them - plus you can usually take a quick look through them there first to see if it is worth while.

I have bought "unsearched" rolls and bags before.some were so badly searched that dates were actually "scratched" off to see a date or mm better.

Carefully hidden in the write ups of all these lots is a subliminal message that reads,"unsearched since the last time these were searched."

I used to bag LWPs for a local coin shop, and trust me there are no "good" finds. We would buy at 2 cents each and would sort them in categories:50's, 40's,steelies, 30s, 20's, common teens, common S mints, and common BU 40's and 50's. We would ship bags out to wholesalers in AZ,OK, and many others. These wholesalers will "salt" them for special promos.
Still fun though, even when its obvious there are no KEY DATE treasures. Keep in mind, there might be items for Cherrypickers.

Hate to spoil the party but I did find a 1909-s vdb in an "unsearched" lot on ebay....guy said he knew nothing about coins and he wasn't lying....I'll admit, that is the exception but I just got it back from ANACS and it is the real deal.
