OK, I finally found the answer to this one while researching another medal with a Star of David on it. This one is sold by occultic/spiritist/wiccan suppliers as the "Magic Circle of Solomon" - googling that exact phrase will find you more than enough examples of identical medals, as well as all sorts of claims as to it's mystical powers.
Several of those sellers claim that "Solomon wore this medal" - which is clearly not true, since on better examples the English words "ALPHA" and "OMEGA" are clearly visible at the top and bottom of the piece. "Alpha and Omega" is a title of God not appearing in the old testament, nor in Jewish tradition; alpha and omega are Greek letters. The title does not appear in the Bible until the Book of Revelation, written a thousand years after the reign of Solomon.

Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
