I was just looking at the on-line price guide and I did not see a listing for the 1975 Kennedy half dollar. I hope this is not a silly question but did the mint skip making the Kennedy half in 1975?

Sort of. They were making them, but they were dated as bicentennials (1776-1976). There are none dated "1975." Same thing for quarters and Eisenhower dollars.

OK, uh........... so does that mean they minted the ones dated 1776-1976 for 2 years?

Yes, they were minted both years. the 1975 Mint and Proof Sets contain the Bicentennial coins as well.

From what I understand the type 1 Ikes were minted in 1975 and the type 2 was minted in 1976 just for your information. Is there a type 1&2 for the halves as well?,just wondering. John1

John is correct on the Eisenhower dollar information. The Eisenhower dollar difference is apparent when you compare the 1975 mint and proof sets to the 1976 issues. I do not think there has ever been a difference found with the Half Dollars based on the year of issue.

And if you want to have a little fun just tell your friends that you will give them $100 for a U.S. quarter dated 1975. They will look through their change and some will even tell you that they have one or two at the house that they will bring you tomorrow and for you to have your money ready.

Be carefull with that one. You really never know. When I was a kid people used to use that for the 1943 Copper Cent. I even heard you could get a new car for one. That started lots of people looking for a coin that just couldn't exist. An Aluminum Cent, yeah right, no such thing and never was. A two headed coin. Impossible. I might use that one but I'll keep it at about $10, JUST IN CASE.

LOL, yes this is SO true. I guess while you make the statement you need to qualify that the 1975 coin they bring you MUST be of authentic US mintage. This could get complicated.

There were no half dollars dated 1975,they were minting the bicentennial coins for 1976. Thats why there is way too many 1976 coins because they made them for 2 years!
