Got this in change. I'm skeptical of it. Do you think it's legitimate, or someone's grinder job?

I don't see any weakness in the rim opposite the "clip". Should there be with this small of a clip?

Would a legitimate clipped Zincoln be missing the copper plating over the clipped area?

I suspect this is simply post-mint damage, but I want to be sure before I throw it back into the wild.

What do you think? Thanks for the help

Your suspicions are correct. The clip occurs in the punching process before plating (there is a rare exception). You can also see the grinding marks on this one.

Thanks! That's what I figured, but I wanted to be sure.

also, if legitimate you will see that the coin is thinner 180 degrees opposite the clip because of the way the metal flows in the die. (There's a cool name for this effect that I always forget.)
