Here is a commemorative Canadian dime with what looks like tails from the word Elizabeth, the Roman Numeral II, and from the word Canada, has anyone seen this before?

I have one (Volunteers Dime) and have seen a couple I spent again, with the same highly obvious die bleeds yours shows. The story I heard so far is that the mint accidentally released "a small number" batch with die bleeds from a broken die. I haven't been able to find out just how many were actually released, so don't know. I also don't know why they don't seem mentioned much online. People don't seem excited about this coin as a mint error or anything else it seems. That seems strange to me if the mint made a mistake and accidentally released some. But then again, I'm new to coins and don't know how its decided whats considered desirable and collectible and whats not ;)

Die bleed. That's plausable. I've shown this on here and received not a peep.

Someone suggested on another forum it was a shattered planchet, but I figured it would be more messed up.

Your coin shows the same kind of "bleeds" from the letters to the rims. Cool.

I sure would like to know more about this dime too, so was glad to see another thread about it EnforcerAl. Eventually maybe someone who knows more will spot these posts and tell us.

I picked this up in change a week ago, but this is the only one I have. Of all the coins I have, this is the only one of this year. I would hope that more would comment on this for all us who have these type of coins. Thanks, and take care.

Search a dime box and you will end up with 30 of these. They're pretty common

So that "small number accidentally released by the mint" can't have been that small after all, if there are so many being found then.

By the way, I once got the frosted one in change too but spent it again. It must have been a proof from a special set or something. It had no die bleeds at all.
