Hey everybody, I found these 2 beautiful 1968S-mints while roll searching today. I just picked up this hobby and have never seen a proof in person. These 2 coins just stick out at me like they might be..If anybody knows please comment! Thanks! -Alan

A proof doesn't have to have frosted devices, there are what is called a brilliant proof.I don't think the pix you posted are proofs. John1

Business strike S-mint Lincolns were struck from 1968-1974, that is what you have there. Proof have much stronger details along with sharp squared rims and a polished surface.

Don't give up on them yet. This issue is somewhat scarce in high Mint State condition. It might be worth your while to get a feel for grading and examine them more closely. If you can honestly say you see no marks on the coin under 5x magnification, we need to talk.

Even if they are not proofs I feel like you should keep them anyway for the following reasons..........
#1 They stood out amongst the others you were searching so they obviously want you to keep them.
#2 They are S mint cents and I have never found a 68s in circulation and I am still looking for one to fill a hole in my album.
#3 In less than two years the 1962s will be fifty years old, I'll keep any coin that is that old and still looks as good as they do.

ok, so I have looked extensively at this coin under both 8X magnification and under a microscope...I dont know how to grade a coin because I never have before, but this one is pretty good.. Under magnification you can see some dings and scratches, but under 8X hardly any at all. Is there any way to get a scanner to take a closer picture? the scans I have up are the closest I can get it. Thanks everyone! -Alan

What always gets me is how many times I look at my change and find pennies (cents for sensitive people) of a date in the 90's that look like they have been around for a thousand years. Then you find those 1968S ones that look like they just were minted. Ever wonder where they've been for so long?

Tim, if you need one, I would be happy to send you a decent hole filler. Jim
