This is the second of my two Morgan dollars.....I was so impressed with the tightness of the grade opinions on the other coin, that I figure that you guys really know your stuff. This coin is in an IGC holder, and I thought it would be interesting to see what you think of it as well. I'll scan the coin in it's holder tomorrow so you can see what you think of IGC's grading standards.

I'm going to say VF-25, but there might be just enough detail to slide to VF-30.

OK, now you're just making me jealous, zeewool. A '78-S Long Nock? You're killin' me here.

VF30, and I'm going to guess VAM-60. Gotta get close to the eye, and the vee formed by the arrow fletches and olive branch, to be sure.

I guess that the general consensus was in the range of 25-30, and since I trust you guys just as much as I do any TPG, I will call it VF-27. Evidently IGC may have been a bit liberal in their grading on this one. I also doubt their attribution skills Dave, but mine are certainly no better, .....here are some close ups. The eye chip of v-57 is there, but the mm is not of v-57.

I couldn't be 100% positive, but the area above the arrow fletches makes me pretty sure that it's VAM-60. Among the rarest, if ANACS populations are any indicator.

Wow, I was way off! But this is good experience, though.

Yeah, that's sort of what I think too Dave, but then it really doesn't matter much to me. it is kinda neat to have one of the first though.

Would you like to do some more slabbed coins Adam? I have them from early to late dates, from 1st rate TPGs and from 3rd world TPGs, a variety of denominations and grades. It might me interesting to see what you think versus the folks who make a living giving their opinions. Let me know if so, and I'll start a thread (or for anyone else 'just for fun').

Yes, very much please, zeewool. I would ask that you post two or three in a single thread, so as not to displace the posts of others, but this would be an opportunity for much good to be done.
Rest in Peace

I had thought VF-25, and I was worried about the 'streaky' patina around the bust.
