This was obviously issued to commemorate this wedding by the King.Is it a regular practice for this to happen and would it be a good collectable item?

It is fairly common for such commemorative coins for royal marriages / anniversaries etc. This particular coin does have quite a low mintage of just 359,000 and contains 17 grams of 0.800 silver. So a better choice than many other modern commemorative coins, such as the British commemorative crowns, that were minted in the millions and apart from the proofs, contain no silver.

Yes, in Denmark it is fairly common to commemorate royal weddings this way. King Frederik had three issued - the one that you have (when Anne-Marie married King Constantine of Greece), and two others - for Crown Princess (and present Queen) Margrethe 1967 and for Princess Benedikte 1968. Then Queen Margrethe had one issued for the wedding of Prince Joachim (1995) and one for Crown Prince Frederik (2004). The latter even has three portraits: the Queen, Frederik and Mary Donaldson ... Other "Royalty" coin issued by Denmark commemorate anniversaries of accession or birthdays.

Yes, royal weddings are popular commemorative events on coins in countries that are monarchies, or have close ties to monarchies.

As chrisild stated, while "bryllup" is Danish for "wedding", Princess Anne-Marie was the king's daughter, not his wife. Anne-Marie actually married King Constantine II of Greece, the last Greek monarch.

For coins such as this which were designed to be "double-headed", the reigning monarch (in this case, Frederick IX) is considered to be the "obverse".

This is a nice coin which I also added to my collection mostly because Anne Marie married the Greek king Constantine.
