Definitely improper alloy but also, some environmental issues possible. The reverse streaking is a tell tale sign.

I've got an 09-s vdb that is similar, but not quite as bad.Seems like San Francisco had some problems that year.I'm not too bummed as they both turned up in lots I bought pretty cheaply.

Condor101,that strikes me as the correct answer...I couldn't put my finger on it until you mentioned plating.W My s-vdb looks more like the coloring is in the metal, this one like it's more on the surface. What did they plate them with and why ?
