So I was at my dealers shop the other day and picked up a few BU (very nice looking) Libertads, when he said "hey, you know what? I got something you might want."

pulled out a 2 ounce 2001 Libertad.

I had never seen one these before and he had only seen one once before.

He sold it to me for spot +$.25 /oz, like the rest of the silver I was buying.

I got home and looked up the mintage... apparently they only made 1600 of these.

can anyone provide info to confirm this? If so, good deal?

Yep Amigo, the mintage is true according to several books. That's why I love collecting Mexican, it won't leave a hole in your wallet. Just 2 years ago I bought a 5oz for melt. Imagine if it was a U.S. mint product with a low mintage like that, you would have to mortgage your house.

I say wow! on that size, looks more like a beautiful medallion than a regular crown sized coin, my interest on it is increasing but my current collecting thread is only up to 38mm, where could I fit it?

Awesome deal and Awesome coin!

I picked up a couple of those back in the day and a couple of the 5 oz proofs for $100.00 each! I always kick myself for not getting more!
