I'd stay away from gold right now with the price per ounce

Or find a nice gold coin whos value is not affected by spot price.

By now you have probably figured out there are as many different ways to spend the grand as there are collectors!
Have fun with it!

The most important factor is to go with the coins you like the most. If I told you that Bust dimes or the 1920 Maine commem were great coins and you had no interest in them, they would be poor choices for you.

I'm a hard money guy, so it's 90 percent and silver for me with $1000. If I wanted to divert some of it into a collector coin, a nice Seated half dime, dime or quarter or Draped Bust Half Cent would be at the top of the lsit.

OR:
1. Buy $1,000 worth of coin books
2. Buy $1,000 worth of coin Albums
3. Buy a ticket to and from a place where they have really large coin shows
4. Buy $1,000 worth of subscriptions to many coin magazines.
5. Buy $1,000 worth of Beanie Babies in case they come back.
Just remember any of the above will leave you with nothing to buy coins with.

$1000 would get you off to a good start on that 7070.
