When I started collecting it was pennies. My brothers and I filled up folder after folder given to us by the coin and stamp man in Live Oak, Fla. He would buy them from us. The year 1945. After returning from Korea I started collecting Commemorative in 1954. I found that it was harder to find this type of coin in a raw state since they were being held by investors. Very low mintage and high demand caused the price to be very high. I had to be lucky to find coins that I could afford. We did not have the Internet which has opened up opportunities for us to find coins we need at a competitive price. Go to shows and don't be bashful. Offer sellers what you want to pay not what the coins are marked. Sellers need cash to operate and the buyer is in control. Thanks to ebay we have a tool to determine real value. New collectors consider commemoratives. Once started they are like a magnet and keep drawing you to expand your collection. Have fun. Remember if you are second guessing what you paid for a coin you did not do your homework or really did not want the coin. Good Luck God Bless.

In this day and time, with all the fakes out there, "MAKE SURE" you have done your homework before you spend your hard earned money! I always read the book before buying the coin! It works for me! I have been collecting for over 45 years and love Commemoratives, most have been created for some historical or special event in history. Not many used for circulation, but can be found there if you search. Good Luck!
