What do you make of this coin? It looks to me like a fairly normal old LWC that is pretty worn but there's little or no rim and the whole thing is super thin. The diameter is also a little smaller than a normal cent by maybe 1/16" (eyeball guess). The third picture is the edge of this coin next to a normal sized cent.
I don't really know how this would happen at the mint or afterward. Thanks.
Actually quite the opposite. An acid altered cent retains most of the detail in a softened fashion while a coin struck on an extremely thin underweight planchet would be missing most of its detail simply because there is not enough metal to fill both dies and bring out the design.
