I am no penny collector, but I have heard of the weak/no D 1922. I recently obtained about $6 worth of truly unsearched LWC's. While separating the dates, I found a lonely 1922 with an almost non-existent D. The description that fits is as follows:

•Second 2 in date is weaker than first 2.
•TRUST is weak but sharper than IN GOD WE.
•L in LIBERTY butts up against the rim.
•The reverse is slightly rotated counterclockwise
•Reverse is weak -- lower left part of O in ONE begins to spread into the field as the die deteriotates. Reverse looks "wavy"
•Mintmark ranges from Weak to No D.

The rotation is really neat. I have very few rotated coins so it was cool for me to see. Is there anything else I should be looking for besides key dates, DDO / DDR and no D's? (there are no 1909 at all, but plenty of 1910-1939 and some 1940-50 across all mints.

Are these particular No D sought after? Any premium on it? I see there are 3 or 4 known dies but the grading companies only grade 1? is that right?

Any help or insight is appreciated.

If you just happened upon a no D '22 Lincoln Cent... well you will have made lots of enemies my friend.

J/k but seriously, people will be jealous, for sure. Grats on the find!

It was my understanding that there is only 1 die that is attributed as a no D... is that correct? if so is this die one of them? I will post pics when I get home tonight.

If you can make out the D at all then it is the weak D variety.

Are they collectable? I know pics will make it better. I am pretty sure I can make out a MM, but I am not absolutely sure... Only took a quick look as I was still sorting. I wish I had taken pics of it last night now.

Probably a weak D, although for your sake I hope I'm wrong.
Yes, they are collectable and worth a premium.
Especially to all the guys like me who plan to put one in their 1922 no d spot!

yeah... the photo is much weaker than the coin in hand. The photo looks washed out real bad.. the second 2 looks like its gone in the photo, but I can see without a loupe no problem. Cheap equipment problem there.

I can see a D in the first photo...hard to call it as "weak" because there is so much wear to begin with.

OK... my question to the guys who know... is this one of the 4 dies and should it get graded. (even if it lands in a details holder?)

I was using a 30x loupe and could not see a mint mark.

Would acetone be safe to use on copper? How about sudsy ammonia? (that is the combo that is safe for preserving silver coinage, and I was told also safe for clad, but how about copper?
