Hello, Just want start off by saying hi because I'm new and also I will try my best to follow the ways of the forum so if I mess up just let know and I will fix it.

I found this nickel while digging through a bucket of wheat's.. I can see from the scratches that it does not appear to be a backed on or some other coating that I can figure. I have also read almost everything that could be found on this coin including the postings found here. I am looking to get some other peoples outlook on this and some more info one the coin If possible.

I took some pictures and I will post them for you and I look forward to reading these reply's! thanks!

I'm new to colllecting but I do not believe that is a copper nickel, just dirty. I hate these, with a billion of them minted they just get in the way. Keep it if you like it.

I'm constantly upgrading my "black" album. Just enviromental. I wish it were a copper, I'd be sitting pretty with 3 coffee cans full. Yeah, it's a keeper if YOU like it.

It is 75% copper just like it is supposed to be but it is not an error, just an old nickel that has suffered environmental exposure. If you are still not sure, weigh it and it will be 5 grams.

Wow, I do thank you all for you input because it helps to here others thoughts but not one person even thinks it could be copper or coated in some way? This coin is clean as a whistle as it has been sitting in a room for 40yrs.. I could try to clean it but I know it wont look any different.. you cant see in the picture but there is a die crack by the chin and even that is a copper tone..I would be able to maybe understand a complex way that the metal in the coin somehow got to be the exact same tone as all the wheat cents in the picture but to say it is simply dirty..that it is not so there must be another reason for this... how about the big scratch across the coin..if it was dirty wouldn't that scratch be a of a metallic color and not that of a copper color.. I honestly do not know how this happened but I assure this coin is not dirty and I am willing to prove it by doing any non damageable tests on the coin.. thats my 5 cents.

So take a photo of the coin on end compared to some cents. If this were copper, it would be a cent planchet that slipped through, so it should be smaller than a standard nickel.
