The Mint just announced that they would be releasing the 2006W American Eagle 20th Anniversary coin sets on Aug 30. Both gold and silver sets will be available at this time.
The three coin silver set is of particular interest as it will have a special finished coin (Reversed Proof finish will be a first for the mint) along with a regualar Proof finish and a better than average uncirculated finish coin. All three of them will bear the 'w' mint mark.
It is my belief that this could possibly be another sleeper just as the 1995w turned out to be. Now the only problem is to be lucky enough to get it ordered before they sell out.

Only 250,000 sets max and the cost of $100 per set. Limit of 10 sets per customer.
Let the games begin!

When you get to the mint page, select "product availability." It's listed for 8/30, but no other info yet.

I might get one, but probably not. Maybe the reverse proof coin will be worth a lot in the long run

This is exactly what I was thinking and IF you want a complete set you will need one of these. Same thing happened in 95 and now you can see what that coin has risen to in price. Its a gamble, but in this case well worth taking IMO.

Thanks Old Dan. This is great info and a head start might see us Aussies try and get one at issue price. Keep up the good work.

Ahh, I see it now. Thanks mopar. But that only shows when it'll be released. OldDan, did you see some report telling you the cost or something? Just wondering...

I don't want to be the rain on anybody's parade, but if the mint is producing 250,000 of these sets, they'll be a glut on the market. The 1995W 10th Anniversary had only 30K minted. With a quarter million, their numbers will satisfy and saturate the demand. Now, if they were to produce only 25K with a limit of one per customer, first come first serve, then maybe we'll see some action...

Sounds like a really nice set to have. Maybe I can convince my wife to get me an early birthday present.

Hi OldDan,
Thanks for posting this. I tried to look it up in a couple of different ways and didn't get very far either.

Can anyone speculate as to how much a gold proof set will sell for from the mint?
I don't know how some sellers do it, but they always seem to be able to sell lower than the mint (2006 Buffalo $50.)

One more thing, If you were able to buy a proof set, keep it for a few years and decide to sell it, how hard do you think it would be?

Heres some more info on the set!!!

On Sale >> Aug. 30

Three sets mark American Silver Eagle 20th anniversary

The United States Mint is scheduled to begin selling 3 American Eagle 20th Anniversary coin sets Aug. 30.

A three-coin silver set will contain the American Eagle 1-ounce silver coins with 3 finishes: Proof, Reverse Proof and Uncirculated. It will be limited to a maximum edition of 250,000. The set will sell for $100.

A three-coin gold set will contain the American Eagle 1-ounce gold coins with the same three finishes planned for the coins in the silver set. The cost of the gold set will be $2,610. The set will be limited to a maximum edition of 10,000.

A two-coin set will contain one each of the Uncirculated American Eagle 1-ounce gold and silver coins. It will be priced at $850. The edition will be limited to a maximum of 20,000 sets.

Orders will be limited to 10 of each set.

The Reverse Proof finish appears to be a first for the United States Mint, although other countries have used a finish of the same name. It typically bears the opposite combination of frosted and mirrored surfaces: the Mint's normal Proof coins bear frosted raised devices and mirrored fields.

Mint officials are distinguishing the Uncirculated coins in the sets from the Uncirculated coins sold through bullion distributors.

The "American Eagle Gold and Silver Uncirculated coins" are being introduced in 2006, according to a Mint spokesman. The Uncirculated American Eagle coins in the sets will feature the same finish as their bullion counterparts, but unlike the American Eagle bullion coins, the American Eagle Uncirculated coins bear the Mint mark of the facility that produces them and follow a different path through the manufacturing process ('W').

Specifically, the planchets used for American Eagle Uncirculated coins are burnished, while those used for American Eagle bullion coins are not.

All of the coins will carry the W Mint mark of the West Point Mint, Mint officials announced June 16. Normally, only Proof American Eagle bullion coins bear Mint marks.

The sets will be available from the Mint Web site, www .usmint.gov, and through the Mint telephone ordering line by calling it at (800) 872-6468.

Old Dan and Laxmaster92, Thanks for the information.

I don't know if I can get $100 together by Aug. 30 or not, but I'm going to try.
