Here's another side of the counterfeit question. Seems that at a recent auction in an out-of-way town a huge amount of obviously counterfeit coins were sold for fairly high prices (including a Gobrecht dollar - now how did THAT get into this state?). Some authentic coins were also being sold, according to several coin club members who attended the auction.
Now - where are these counterfeits going to end up? In the buyers' collections? Don't think so. Someone is going to be "supporting" these crooks - just as some of the buyers of the counterfeit software did, knowingly or unknowingly.
I went to an estate sale recently. Picked up a watch and looked at it. Rolex. $5.00 price tag ... and clearly marked "Fake". My kind of sellers!
