Quote: If the coins are declared Treasure, they will become Crown property and will be valued. Them's American coins. We should get em. Seriously though that ruling makes no sense concerning native coins and even less sense with it being "foreign" coins.

Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction. Who would have thought that the last two British coin hoards found were possible? Who knows, maybe there really is an Eldorado?

If they do not own the property and just renting; then I would say split it with the owner. now if they had bought the land then found the coins it rightfully is theirs.

I think the whole "becoming property of the crown" is "rubbish."
With how recent they are they should just be given back to the finders and let them do what they want with them.

Quote: Whoever hid the 80 coins from the 19th and early 20th centuries may be alive Quote: pieces dating from 1854 to 1913 I doubt that the person or persons are still alive but who knows? Maybe they had them stashed in their home for many years until they decided to bury them.

Not much differant in the state Vermontensium, some states require you notify them if your find is over 100 years old and New York requires it if it is over 50 years old. WOLF
