I would have left off the "Unopened since 1982" if that's what there are. Still, good spin.

Wouldn't you want just to open the package just to look at them, maybe just a little bit? I bought a Minnesota State Quarter first day production letter, came in the cardboard sleeve from the mint. To leave in sleeve or not to. Well the curious cat won out and I now can look at my purchase and enjoy it!

Very over priced at $39.99. Fair market value on those would be $20 tops as they are listed at $4 each right now. "Unopened since 1982" does not add one cent of value to them in my opinion.

High retail is only a little over $7 a set. With postage he's $10 over what I would have paid.

CDN ask is only $3.25 and I'm not aware of any errors or varieties that would make these sell at a premium. You can walk into any coin shop and buy these for $4-5 all day long. If they were 81 sets they would definately command a nice premium due to the "clear S" variety.

Tim, I'm loving the signature's!! I'm a little cornfused? Were they once opened in 1982 and he is selling an open box saying he only looked at the coins in 1982, and if so how many times in 1982 did he happen to look. I know I would only feel comfortable with 2-3 times. Anything more than could label him a peeping tom.LOL At first I thought their might be something their being the price was so high but I was thinking of 81 or 83 sets. Anyone know of anything that could be in their. Other then by now lonely coins.

Quote: If they were 81 sets they would definately command a nice premium due to the "clear S" variety. Agreed. They also dropped the Anthony dollar in 1982. These sets have five coins and one "mint medal" in place of the dollar. As for leaving anything unopened, I do not see the point. I buy coins to look at them!

It goes to the same mentality that Star Wars Action Figure collectors have. They are worth more in the unopened box. However in this case the guy doesn't know better.

Can't believe prices for these dropped so much ... Makes me wonder about other modern coinage.
