Hi, I've bought 20x 2010 ASEs from ebay and just received them recently. The problem with these coins is that they all look partially glossy and matte on both sides of each coin. On the liberty side, about 3/4 from the bottom of the coin is glossy, shiny and slippery looking. The top part is white frosted and dull looking. The dull looking part forms a crescent shape (starting from the letter L stretching to the Liberty's neck and ends at the letter Y) over the rest of the coin. On the eagle side however, about 3/4 from the top of the coin is dull looking with the remaining bottom part looking glossy and shiny. The shiny part too forms a crescent shape just below the wings of the eagle starting from the letter you to the letter are in AMERICA. This applies to each and every one of the twenty ASEs I got from the seller. The seller said this is part of the irregularity of the manufacture process: the condition of the dies and planchets. That the coins are not treated with a lot of care as they are Business Strike bullion coins. The coins look real to me. I haven't weighed or measured the coins because I don't have the tools yet to do so (I'm new to silver coin investing). I just want to confirm if there's such thing as the irregularity in the manufacturing process or Business Strike bullion coins and if the coins are real? Also, the seller suggested that I use E-Z-Est Speedip Silver Coin Cleaner to get the coins to shine uniformly. Is this true? Has anyone tried this? Your help would be much appreciated!

Hello, I know exactly what you mean! I've noticed it! I ran into the same thing a couple of months back with a American Silver Eagle and a couple of Mexican 1 oz Libertads that I bought from a seller on ebay. He told me that was exactly how he bought them but he had also noticed the difference. I was so convinced that some form of coating had been put on them that in the end I sold them but it could be that thats how they are made. I personally don't like it but I couldnt prove it either way. The reason I was convinced that something was on them is because I ran the coin under running water and the water would automatically bead up like when theres water on a recently waxed car, my other ASE's and Libertads wouldnt do that, also the color wasn't the usual "frosty" or white color it was too glossy and dark. I tried all kinds of things test it, like baking soda, lemon juice, acetone, and finally I did dip it with ez est acid and that surface color remained! So maybe it was made like that, in the end who knows? At least weigh them so you know they are real.

These are bullion coins, I wouldn't worry too much about some irregularities in the finish. I would also be careful if you use cleaners, these remove metal.
Welcome to the forum btw.

Thanks oober. You're right, I shouldn't be worrying about the irregularities in the finish but I worry about its authenticity. So RealPeso, when you had the coins, did you weigh and measure them? Were they real silver coins? I took a few photos of the coin and I think you guys should take a look. Here are my best shots: So what do you guys think about the coin?

Looks darn perfect in that picture. It really does appear to have a satin like finish to it. One beautiful coin to be sure. I've noticed it a bit on a couple of the 2010's I have as well.

It's not that obvious on the liberty side. But you can see pretty clearly there are two distinct finishes on the eagle side. Any ideas on how to get rid of the satin like finish on the coin? I want the coin to shine uniformly. :(

Looks good terra! Mine actually were dark glossy in finish, I would of kept them if they were like the one in your picture. Yes, I did weight them and they were spot on,I also checked the edge/rim and diameters against my other ASE's and Libertads and they checked out perfectly. I just guess thats how they are made.
