I opened an 1956 roll of wheat cents and I noticed some of them had a small die crack. As I progressed into the roll, I noticed the die crack getting progressively worse to the point that it looks like a chip may have broken off of the die. What do you guys think?

your lucky to have found that.

each time the die mints a coin, it gets worn out like any other thing, right? so, there was a crack in the first coin, it got bigger and bigger and worse and worse until someone changed the dies.

I ended up with 10 coins that look exactly like this, 24 others that started with a weak crack and progressed to this point, and 16 with no evidence of a die crack. Its very cool to see the progression of the die breaking down.

is that another crack/chip right below the wheat stalks, where V.D.B. should be in 1909?

I double checked. unfortunately, it was just lint.

The only thing on the reverse that is consistent with each coin is a raised line at the top inside part of the letter D on United. Its small though and hard to see in the pics I posted.

Nice assassin's cent! I know that isn't very PC but I couldn't resist. Cool piece.
