Any input from the experts regarding authenticity of the following? Check out the question and answer at the bottom for context.

Thanks for assisting in my quest for knowledge. Someday I will own one of these.

Here's another one I was following. Most definitely cleaned, but authentic? Seller guaranteed it was in response to direct question.
And can the cleaning effect be lessened in any way in gold coins?

Thanks.

The 1888 looks highly suspect to me. The 56-s looks ok, but there is absolutely no way we can guarantee those are genuine with the high amount of counterfeits out there. Did you catch my link on the other thread? The auction ended already and was a great looking coin imho well within your budget.

Once a coin is cleaned, it is usually ruined. Please don't buy a raw $3 gold coin on ebay.

Thanks, Johnny.

Can you tell me what makes the 1888 look suspect to you, especially relative to the 1856-S? Just trying to develop a mental database of what to watch for.

Great find with the link you provided. I really appreciate the time it took you to locate that and look at the others. Too bad I missed it, but it shows they are out there in my budget.

I shall heed your advice about raw $3G on ebay. It's such a shame though. Thanks!

It's a shame that the coin was cleaned because the price wasn't too bad, but for that amount of money you can find one that hasn't been tampered with thus possessing its original surfaces.
