huh... found this in the lot. The rim beading seem to have been stretched out, but the edge of the coin is smooth and not lettered. Could this been an error or is it a damaged coin?

It looks like it's minted on an undersized planchet; either an elliptical clip or a planchet intended for another denomination/country. Is the coin fully round? Does it weigh less than normal?

It's not fully round, and it is underweight. It seems to be off from around 9 o'clock to 4 o'clock, and the edge is flat at those parts as well.

What material is it? I know it should be cu-ni, but in the pictures it looks like Ag.

Looks like a planchet error.
Either it a material defect that happened during the production or it is the planchet of a different coin.
Would be interesting to know which coins the have minted in 1970 there.
Exact weight could be useful.
If the planchet is too small,it is consequential that the coin is not perfectly round.

That's interesting. It looks like there wasn't enough metal to strike up the rims against the collar.
I see nothing on the rim to suggest PMD.

Thanks for all the help!

hmmm now I wonder how this could have happened. Were modern Swiss coins ever struck by other mints? It seems like the first possibility is that it's on a planchet for a French 5Fr, but also could be the blank was made too small.

I'm not positive, but I don't think any Swiss coins have been struck outside the country.
However, I know they have struck foreign coins...but I couldn't find a list.

The Royal Mint (UK) made a couple of Swiss coins in the late 1960s/early 70s, but not the 5 fr piece.
