I went to a local show in Central N.J. today. It was in a different location then past shows. The lighting was poor. The attendance was very light, the dealers had a fair amount of inventory. I kept over hearing the dealers were not selling much, and were having a to sell at 5% over what they paid. They blamed the economy for they lack of attendance, which seemed somewhat reasonable. I counted 28-29 dealers, who spent most of their time talking to each other. They were very cordial and helpful in letting me look through their inventory.

Picked up an 1837 bust Half Dime. Condition was a little worse then I wanted but I have not been able to find one at a show.

There's little coin show in Central Jersey, one that I normally go to is a monthly local show in the fire dept they rent for cheap. And is about little more than a dozen dealers at best, and prices are high even for junk silver.

Yeah, bad lighting seems common at shows. Most halls have inadequate lighting, and some dealers don't bring enough lights. The last show I was at also had very little traffic.

I have been there a few times. Picked up some coins there but nothing great. There are one or two dealers you can cherry pick from if they aren't busy.

N.J.? So what did you expect from a place in that state? Now you just have to move to Illinois. We have 4 coin shows a Month within 15 miles of my house. 4 different places and all different amounts of dealers. All free admission and parking. And really great lighting too. But that is ILLINOIS for you. We should put up signs saying great place for coins. Actually sorry to hear that show wasn't to good from what you say. The problem with shows like that is once people are not happy with that place, they wouldn't go back and that starts a chain reaction of less and less people going to that show.

just carl, Illinois is a really nice place. I used to spend weeks at a time in Roselle. The only drawback is it is really cold in the winter.Brrrrrrrrrrrr I also agree...the poor lighting did turn off the collectors,it was their first show at this new venue.I hope they take notice and correct the problem or else the attendance will suffer.

Quote: Most halls have inadequate lighting... A few years ago, they completely renovated the local convention center where the annual coin show is held. I have to say, this is something that is no longer a problem. The other annual show (in the next city over from me) still has some lighting issues at their venue, but the regular dealers have learned to bring lights with them. Quote: But that is ILLINOIS for you. No, that is Chicagoland for you! One would be hard-pressed to find such variety in Rushville, even though it is only a four hour drive.
