I showed my Father that picture this morning and he said "Your Mom and I had that many Morgans". I think my heart stopped! I knew that they had a lot of them collected over years and years but, I guess that I had forgotten just how many they had. They sold them at bullion price in 1980! Can I really, really cry now? They only left me with a dozen or so!!!!!!!!!

I bet all them Peace VAMers would be drooling at that picture. With that many Peace dollars you just know there are quite a few VAM's in that pile. I wonder if anyone else that are interested in VAM's think the same way I do when I see a pile of Dollars (morgans or peace) all I can think of is how many VAM's are probably in that pile. Anyone else think that way or is it just me?

Yes, my folks loved Silver Dollars. My Mother knew the difference between a Morgan and a Peace but, I don't think that my Dad ever really cared. I do know that they had just bought their home in Arizona and by selling the silver dollars they purchased all of their furniture (solid Cherry) for that home. Man what I would give to have those coins back! Oh well, they enjoyed them from their years of fruitful labor! I'm still crying though!

Debbie, As you know, we were both at the ANA Convention, we both saw the table with the coins, and took pictures of it. Looking at your picture brought back a special memory for me. As I have posted previously, I used to go to the bank during the early 1960's and pick up rolls of silver dollars to look through. Once, about 1963, I received a check in the mail which was to cover college expenses for a quarter. It was for roughly $1,000. I went to the bank and requested about 500-600 silver dollars. I then went to my apartment and spread all those Morgans and Peace dollars out on my bed to look at them. Denver, Philly, New Orleans, CC. All BU! When I was done I put two or three aside to save, and stacked the rest on a table The memory of those dollars on the table in my apartment is the memory your picture brought back. Unfortunately, all those beautiful coins were taken back to the bank and deposited in my checking account. Can you imagine their value had I kept them!

I'm so glad that the pic and your/our visit to the ANA Convention brought back such a wonderful memory. It's really true - "if we knew then what we know now"........ The gentlemens name that allowed me to take the photo was also named "King".

One thing I was really impressed with was the trust shown at the Convention.
The friend I was with was allowed to hold the gold bar which was worth millions. Of course, what was he going to do with it?
Also, I was told by a fellow collector who I ate lunch with that he had been allowed to handle the $100,000 banknotes!
On a related subject, I visited my coin store today, and asked to look at a Barber half. They handed it to me and walked away to talk with another customer. The price tag was for $6,000!
Trusting people!

Wow! That must have been quite an experience seeing all those coins like that! I cringed when I first saw it though, as has been said, what damage was or is being done to them by stacking them like that. But, to each his own, I guess. It just makes everyone elses coins more valuable as the other available coins go down a grade of two.
