Hi folks, as I am still quite new to collecting US currency, I would like to get your opinions about off-center notes. Assuming the note in question is in otherwise uncirculated condition, does the fact that it is off-center make much difference to its' value? For example, if the note has a particularly interesting serial# (radar, repeater, etc.), but is off-center by quite a bit, would this make it less desirable for you? Also, at what point does this become an error?

Peiper1, sorry no one has attemped to answer you yet. I'm not an expert but I'll take a stab at this. First let's be sure we are talking about the same thing. Alot of people confuse off centered with uncentered. Off centered means the image on the note is moved to the side so far the is design missing on the note. Uncentered means the design is not centered but is still completely there. Off centered notes are error notes and do have collector value to error collectors. Uncentered notes from my experience are the opposite. Uncentered notes are not an error so they have no interest from the error collectors. Also, collectors of regular issue paper money like nice notes and typically will pay less for a note that is uncentered. I have seen this several times with national banknotes. I hope this answers your question.

Thanks pyrbob, I did not know there was a difference between "uncentered" and "off-centered", but your explanation does make perfect sense.
