I sent a number of coins off for grading by ICG and received an email back saying they were on their way back to me. My question concerns their grading codes other than the standard 01-70. Does anyone happen to know what a 90, 158, and 160 codes indicate per ICG grading. I suppose I'll find out when the coins arrive, but there's a cat about to be killed here.. Thanks! Paleoguy
Not sure on those codes but I know 88 stands for questionable authenticity so these could be codes for cleaned or something else. Not sure, have you called them?
I am not sure of the 90. When they place a 1 in front of the grade it usually means it is a "cleaned" details grade, so 158 is a AU58 details grade for being cleaned and your 160 is an MS60 details grade, again probably cleaned.
Thanks for the input. The 90 code was on a 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar. There was some damage to the bust so I'm hoping it's a damage code. It weighed out ok and had that nice silver "ring" to it.... I may end up sending it to ANACS. At least they'll give it a grade even with the caveats.
