Cost from the mint was $1 plus 8 cents for the "proofing process". At least that was true for the early years of the Morgan dollar. By the 1890 or 1896 it may have risen slightly.

I did some searching and found this "DIVO collection" on collectors society registry. It is an amazing set and the coin I posted above is just one of two PF-69* he has in that one collection. here is the other

If anyone likes toned coins check out the #2 set, it has mostly toned coins in that set and all graded super high http://coins.www.collectors-society...SetID=110216 I can only dream and drool while looking at these coins because I would never be able to put a set anywhere near as nice as any of these

oh believe me if I could afford it I would have a complete set myself. I have spent a few thousand dollars on a specific coin. Even though not hundreds of thousands of dollars like these are worth, if I was in a position where I could do so comfortable (like I am sure these guys can) I wouldn't think twice about it
