Cruising the auction sites came across this beauty.

Ouch. That coin went for $126,500 at Heritage a few years ago.

there is a MS-69PL 1881-S I believe graded by PCGS and thats the highest graded MS Morgan I have ever seen

EDIT: its a 1880-S instead of 1881-S, here is a picture of it

it is just a pedigree. Like it could be the owners name they wanted on all their coins in that set like the Jack Lee set or the binion collection. I am not familiar with the Bermuda Collaction but that is what it is. It is nothing special just something the owner wanted added to the label that the TPG agreed should be added. The "Divo Collection" is the same thing on the NGC coin

I found the Bermuda registry set on PCGS registry. They are the 5th all time greatest set and was ranked #1 when retired in 2004. It had some super nice coins in that set http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/all...x?s=1835&p=1

Love that mag app on the goldberg site. Wonder if that's around to grab.

Oh yeah, and nice coin! Too bad they lost 40K! That's gotta be scary buying and selling those big boys.

Anyone know how much the U.S. Mint sold those proofs for originally? $5-$10?

As far as I know there is no record of how much they sold for but I doubt they were that much. just think if the mint charged double the price of spot now for proofs, everyone would hit the roof, it was probably the same back then. Especially since they had precious metals in their every day coinage unlike us. I would imagine the sell would be less than $2.00 since it was only worth $1.00 in silver

What do you call that? Pedigree?......for the who's who of the money gamers at the time..they had the money to spend...the ratio of the value of there money to ours is significant......The grades of there coins they can obtain to our money is overwhelming.....but if they can't recoup the money they probably can write the lose of as an investment....you or I can not....with no money and few friends, I can only comment:
on the greater picture of coin collecting..

Money or the collectors names try to apply a value to when they try to liquidate there collection, but we all know the can submit 1,000 coins at a bulk rate pricing and for there money get far more than my few coins in my collection for one of there coins...BUT WOW such coins....
I'm poor, but love to see such treasures....

The nice thing about Morgans is that even with a little bit of money you can still get a great Choice BU coin. Hence, while the highest grades are unobtainable, great examples of nearly each date can be gotten for a (near) song.
