I don't remember any 1996 Quarter that would have a date on the Reverse. The State Quarters didn't start until 1999 so it can't be one of those with a date on it so not sure what you mean by a date on the Reverse. Is it a Magicians coin that has two heads? The 1996 Reverse should look just like the 1978 so there would be no way to tell the difference, I am thinking maybe its counter struck or its a Magicians coin but would really need pictures to tell you which one it is

The '78 came with two reverses; a type "c" and type "d".

Do you nmean the type "c" reverse?
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I still bet its a counter struck coin. That is the only way I can see "the reverse stamped as 1978" like he said
