Hello all, I'd like to sell off a few extra pieces, such as this Half Dime. It's in a 2nd-tier grading service slab and as such is possibly overgraded. What grade do you think it deserves? If I decide to put it up on ebay what would you think might be an appropriate starting bid? Thanks!

Good picture, but I can't quite get a read on the luster to tell if it is high AU or if it is in fact MS. If it is Mint State, I would say it is at least 63, and very possibly 64.

Yea, his is a classic cast of AU/MS64. depending on if you can find a slight amount of wear.
Assuming its UNC I would say its a 63/64. I dont see any detracting marks and the toning seems attractive and even.
Very nice coin. Make sure you post the link so I can bid on it :D

MS-63 Greysheet bid is $485, so I would probably open it at $375 or so to generate some interest and bids. If it is MS-64, Greysheet is $835, so probably open in the $700 area. Take my opening bid suggestions with a grain of salt though, since I only sell directly from my website and not through ebay or any other auction site.

My gut feeling is that the coin is AU. The tips of the reverse leaves seem to be rubbed. The more leaves I look at the more rubbed, and even worn, they look! It could be the image though since this tiny baby is magnified about 100X!
So...based on that...my grade is AU50 and my starting price would be $100.
P.S. My Greysheet is from July 2010 and the prices are much lower than quoted by ACE Mike. My sheet shows MS63 at $240.

Great observation bherring! It really helps if I look at the Half Dime listing instead of the dimes! Now that I am on the correct page, please ignore the prices in my post above. The Greysheet is in fact $240 for MS-63 and $475 for MS-64, from the October Quarterly I.

Thanks for the replies. The coin is actually graded "MS-64 Toned" by SEGS. I don't see any wear in-hand but the luster is pretty muted. Maybe it's from the toning alone or maybe the coin was dipped and later re-toned. Either way I think it should have more "pop" to earn that '64. It might be acceptable as MS-63. Here's the slab: I expect I will put it on ebay but I need to avoid mentioning the SEGS name. ebay has become pretty strict at ending auctions that give any TPG names except the official, approved companies. I'll post a link in the member auction section if/when I list it.

SEGS still over grade to the usual upper TPG standards.....and I also agree....to post the pictures is such a large photo's EXPLOITS the smallest of details, the coin in must look quite exceptional. and MS for sure in grade... But with the SEGS as the grading I would drop it by 1 grade at a minimum and probably 2 grades to be in the ball park as grading standards have tightened up..Still a very nice coin..

I would not necessarily say that SEGS overgrades that much; often I've seen them grade more conservatively with coins that typically get a break from the top 3 (seated liberty dollars, etc)
