I know that acetone for a day followed olive oil for up to three weeks should probably eliminate the black gunk.

But I am unsure of how to attack the green junk: most likely oxidized copper.

Another concern I have is how to arrange the sequences of cleanings.

In other words I want to avoid beginning with one soaking method and later find out that it had caused one of the growths to set in on the coin even worse.

If this is not a concern, let me know.

In summary, please suggest the best solutions and sequences to clean up this particular copper coin.

Thanks

You need to get hold of BadThad. He's the pro as far as I'm concerned. Ping, pardon me, PM him and I'm sure he'll respond.

Carmy.,

I'm new to Internet acronyms and jargon etc.

I don't know what PM means and would like to know if you have Badthad's or Ping's email address.

I'm a bit confused.

Thanks,

mdp

Just send him the email. and then post some pics if you decide to conserve the coin.

Hello

VERDI-CAREâ„¢ will remove most of the verdigris without damaging the coin. While this coin is not really worth the cost of the product, you'll be able to conserve at least a hundred more with one bottle. If you only plan on conserving this one coin, it's not worth the cost, but if you're a serious collector, you'll find MANY more uses for VERDI-CAREâ„¢. If you look in the For Sale section, I'm currently running a sale on VC.

PS - What you're seeing is NOT oxidation, it is verdigris. There's a huge difference between the two.
