Hi guys, I recently purchased a "Birds of Prey" 4 coin set off ebay(I know) these are a set of 4 50cent pieces from 2000 commemorative.

Anyways a couple of the capsules have opened and one of the coins is actually tarnishing on one side (they are 92% silver).

My question is, are these capsules supposed to open this easily, and in a set like this is tarnish typical? Of course the buyer is assuring me this is normal, but I thought these capsules were made to higher standards.

Any advice is appreciated, my only real recourse (given the expense of return shipping) is negative feedback (none of these issues were mentioned on the sale page)

Cheers!
My $0.02

Capsules are easy to open from the mint ... they shouldn't fall open, but I've been able to open them with my hands - the trick is to avoid pulling on a diagonal.

Just saying... as for tarnishing ... if they were displayed in sunlight/bright light ... yeah. That's just how it goes. I think a little tarnish is pretty, though.

won't affect the value also if the capsule is broken sometimes local dealers have extras laying around for a small charge

Thanks for your opinions you two. I just needed to know if I had made a bad purchase. Looks like I'm ok. However, the seller will get neutral feedback for not mentioning the tarnish on "mint' coins he sold....also the box they came in is damaged...but the important thing, the coins are fine.

Cheers and thanks again!

That's probably a good way of responding to the feedback. Tarnish doesn't detract from value, usually, but it should be clearly stated. Note: Cleaning off the tarnish WILL detract from value.
