This is a 5 yen of the 1916 "series" or rather, this and the 1 yen note. It was probably printed in the 1920s. However, what makes this rare is that it was only issued for a few years when this note was issued to replace it in 1930.

Because your 1916 note was only around for a few years AND 5 yen in gold was quite a lot at the time (in gold it's the same as an American quarter eagle) for Japan, this note wasn't in circulation a lot.

I guess $100 is a good price for it. It's certainly what I'd pay for that note.

thanks for telling me I see the sale on ebay do you think I should ship a note like this worldwide while 300 dollars isn't a ton of money it is to me and I wouldnt want anything weird to happen shipping it to spain or wherever so do you think it would get as much attention if I only shipped to the u.s.

You have to ship registered... which is a hassle but it's safe. Registered is $12-14, depending on if you ship it in an envelope or a package. It's the most secure thing, and you should basically charge all international shipping as $16 or so.

Definitely ship it overseas. From experience, this type of note might not get that many bites in the US, but if you offer overseas, people will definitely come. And more or less, they won't care about the shipping. They want it to be safe as well.
