Hi, does anyone know if there are varieties in the 1875 H canadian quarter? I've been told there is a pointed "5" and a blunt "5" but cannot seem to google any info. on them. If so, would one be rarer than the other?
Thanks Edited by Canada-EH 11/12/2010 5:11 pm

I believe they are priced the same in "Trends".It's hard enough to afford one decent example, let alone feel a need for two.

There are markers by which you can identify the Chinese couterfeit Victoria 25cents.If you are really interested in this I suggest you contact coinsrfun on this forum to find where this information is avaiable,he is the expert on identifying chinese counterfeits. . These counterfeits would grade in the VF range. If you're buying raw coins in this price range you should buy from someone you trust if you don't yet have the the knowledge to protect yourself.

Thanks DBM, the one I'm looking at is probably a VG but I will educate myself on the counterfeits.

Counterfeits are actually easy enough to spot..Usually the color is way off what it should be for coins that age, many times the queens face just does not look right, and the denticles are often out of sequence... Another good reference is often times the lettering is incomplete or broken, ...If not sure just save a pic of several different Victorian coins that have been certified. and compare the coins ..... Its a safe way, or ask the seller for large pics, or any questions

The Chinese couterfeit 25cents all have obv2 with short bough ends reverse, thus making it fairly easy to avoid 1887 and later fakes. As artdio said they are usually off colour and most have broken or incomplete letters. If you can find a good picture of one, look for a distinctive pattern in Victoia's hair, they all share this same pattern, and once you become familiar with it you should be able to recognize the fakes.
