I have a question. Here are the two coins in question. They are Finnish KM49a.

The color difference is what I am asking about. I suppose this could be 'toning' but I'm wondering if any others have seen this difference in coloring. Is it is possible that the planchet had more copper vs nickel in the 1981 coin?

Unfortunately no matter what do I cannot get the golden color to come through on the scan clearly. You can see that is slightly darker and looks like streaks of gold color but in hand it is even golden shade with some slightly darker streaks (which is all you see in the scan)

I have seen copper nickel coins from some Pacific Island nations that are exactly identical, except for colour. Some looked gold, like aluminium bronze, and some of the normal copper nickel colour. A coin dealer explained that it depends on the environment in which they were stored; the coins in question were all copper nickel.

thanks sel. I was thinking it was a toning issue. I've heard some of the folks talk about the whole window sill thing. I certianly didn't think I had a rarity on my hands LOL And that is exactly the color I was trying to show in the scan. the aluminum-bronze goldish. Anyy, thank you.
