I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and was wondering if it's a good place to metal detect, if not I often get out of the city Laurentians, Vermont, Adirondacks, New Hampshire, Ontario etc... I thought it might not be a bad place to metal detect because of old New France colonial coins. What do you think?

Any place you can get permission to hunt is a good place. Just some are better than others. Do a little research and try to find the places with the most history and you should do good.

You might get more hits around the rivers where battles took place.

You may have to ask Maire Tremblay the permission to metal detecting in Montreal,he may ask you a cut on your finds.
