G'day, these coins are often forgeries, and the simplest way to forge one is to alter the date on a genuine halfpenny. Your pic doesn't show the date, and that is the feature that people will want to examine most closely. As to the parts of the coin that are visible, the obverse has a little wear. There are areas of discolouration, which detract from the condition ... BUT PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THE COIN.
Without a pic of the date area, the above don't matter much: if it's a forgery, it's worthless; and until that is clarified, there's not much point in contemplating an overall grade.

Peter, If you click on the individual piccies in the URL, the whole coins become visible.

I would grade it as gFine or perhaps aVF. It looks good to me in terms of authenticity.

I found it with some other old coins and sovereigns my wife had from her mother when she passed away.
Thanks for the gFine or aVF now I will look up what they mean. I am new at all this.
I understand this coin is rare. Can any one suggest a reputable valuer?
Cheers

i think latman made a typo, it is supposed to be just Fine, not gFine

No typo. gFine is good fine, aVf is almost very fine. Since we don't use a number system, for in between grades we use 'good' and 'almost'. For example we could grade across the range aVF, VF, gVf, aEf, Ef. Therefore giving us two in between grades between the main grades.
Tiapan, your coin has verdigris which is the green stuff on it. For a coin like this it needs to be properly conserved. Do not try to remove it yourself, as you may damage the coin and significantly lower its value. As to value, Maccas' guide to Australian coins and Banknotes puts it between $2250 in Fine, to $4750 in Very Fine. The verdigris will affect value, however. What part of Australia are you in? Location will determine who we can recommend to have it appraised, and where to get advice on conservation.
